Surgical Experience of Small Left Colon Syndrome with idiopathic Small Bowel Perforation

Abstract
|
|
|
Small left colon syndrome (SLCS) is a very rare syndrome producing signs and symptoms of low colonic obstruction. It is often accompanied by history of diabetic mother. This syndrome has been considered as a benign condition in which contrast
enema
examination was curative by stimulating meconium evacuation. It is very difficult to differentiate this syndrome with Hirschsprung's disease and meconium plug syndrome. Surgery is often needed because of difficult diagnosis with Hirschsprung's
disease
and high incidence of intestinal perforation.
We report a case of SLCS with distal ileal perforation which was treated with staged operation (exteriorization followed by Santulli's colostomy and repair) with review of literatures.
